Preserving Craft.

Phil Barker began his journey in furniture restoration at the Dickenson Cabinet Shop in Eden, North Carolina. His first job — sweeping floors and cleaning up after school — laid the foundation for what would become a lifelong craft. Over time, he learned the art of building and finishing furniture, developing skills that continue to shape his work today. In 1971, Phil moved to Greensboro and joined Guilford Galleries, where he worked in furniture customer service until the company closed in 1976. That same year, he launched Phil Barker’s Refinishing, turning his passion into a full-time business. For nearly five decades, Phil has specialized in refinishing furniture — both antique and modern — as well as office pieces. His workshop offers a range of finishes, including high-quality lacquer in a variety of colors.
